| Abstract |
The herbicide intermediate 2-hydroxy-3,6-dichlorobenzoic acid had an LD50 for mice of 660mg/kg, for rats of 1562mg/kg and for guinea pigs of 1800mg/kg. The compound showed no cumulative or allergenic properties. When applied to the skin, the compound was absorbed and showed weak irritant action. Chronic exposure of rats to 5.23mg/m3 produced functional changes in the liver and central nervous system and immunological and metabolic disorders after 60-120 days. Intragastric administration of 3mg/kg produced these symptoms in 1 month. The compound also produced changes in the cell population of peripheral blood. Dose-response data support a maximum acceptable concentration of 1mg/l in workplace air and 0.15mg/l in water. |
