| Abstract |
Sinestrol, fosfestrol and diethylstilboestrol were applied as acetone solutions to skin patches on rats and guinea pigs (dose range 0.0001-1.0mg/kg). Diethylstilboestrol had the strongest feminising effect, with a minimum active dose (Limac) of 0.001mg/kg; fosfestrol and sinestrol were less active, with approximate Limac values of 0.01 and 0.005mg/kg, respectively. However, the activities of all 3 compounds at such levels make them hazardous to workers in the pharmaceutical industry, especially to women. Protective measures should include limitations on working hours in the presence of the compounds, improved personal protective equipment and medical surveillance. |
