Forced Labour Convention, 1930 (No. 29) - Uruguay (Ratification: 1995)

Article 2(2)(c) of the Convention. Penalty of compulsory community service. The Committee notes section 15 of Act No. 19.210 of 2013 amending section 369 of the Penal Code, which provides for the penalty of community work as a principal penalty imposed through a judicial sentence. In accordance with this provision, the Ministry of the Interior may conclude agreements with private institutions for the implementation of community work (section 16). Taking into account the possibility available to the Ministry of the Interior to conclude agreements with private institutions, the Committee requests the Government to provide information on the arrangements for the performance of the penalty of community work imposed under the terms of section 369 of the Penal Code and in particular on the nature of the entities that benefit from such work and the types of work carried out.
