Comments and observations
5 May 2026: International Maritime Organisation
I note that the China Maritime Safety Administration has confirmed with the shipowner's Seafarer Recruitment and Placement Service in China, that eight (8) Chinese seafarers who worked on board have been paid their wages and are repatriated, that eight (8) seafarers have confirmed that the complaint issues have been resolved, and that at present these eight (8) seafarers are the only Chinese seafarers who have served on the vessel since September 2025. However, since this is inconsistent with the abandonment report which listed twelve (12) Chinese seafarers, China requests the relevant parties to further verify the number of seafarers with outstanding wages, so as to further facilitate the resolution of the abandonment case.
The received information will be recorded on the joint IMO/ILO database on abandonment of seafarers. I herewith would like to kindly request ITF, who reported this abandonment case, to provide for a further clarification regarding the number of seafarers with outstanding wages.
5 May 2026: China
(From the China MSA)
China Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) contacted the shipowner's Seafarer Recruitment and Placement Service in China. The Service confirmed that eight(8) Chinese seafarers who worked on board have been paid their wages and repatriated, and eight(8) seafarers have confirmed that the complaint issues have been resolved. At present, China MSA can confirm that, according to the records, the eight(8) seafarers mentioned above are the only Chinese seafarers who have served on the vessel since September 2025. This is inconsistent with the abandonment report, which listed twelve(12) Chinese seafarers. China requests the relevant parties to further verify the number of seafarers with outstanding wages, so as to further facilitate the resolution of the abandonment case.
Should there be any developments, we will keep you informed promptly.
